What Is a Certified Translation?
A certified translation is an accurate, complete version of an original document rendered into another language by a professional translator. Certified by the Agency and a Commissioner of Oaths
Most of the translations are certified by the Director of our Agency or a Commissioner of Oaths in Canada. Such translations satisfy the requirements of Canadian immigration authorities, employers and insurance companies.
Rarely, translations need to be done and stamped specifically by translators who are members of an association of translators in Canada (ATIO on Ontario, OTTIAQ in Quebec, STIBC in British Columbia, etc.). Most government offices do not require such certification but some licensing organizations do.
Sometimes, embassies and consulates (Russia, Cuba, Mexico, Spain, and a few others) require translations to be notarized by a Notary Public in Canada. This is usually for use outside of Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions
In this block you can get answers to common questions.
A sworn translation is typically performed by a translator officially appointed by a government or court—common in countries like France or Spain. In Canada, there’s no sworn translator system. Instead, we offer certified translations that are accepted by legal and government bodies. If you're submitting documents within Canada, a certified translation prepared by a member of a recognized association of translators and interpreters (like ATIO or OTTIAQ) is the legal standard.
Yes — our certified translations are accepted globally when they meet the specific requirements of the receiving institution. For many countries that are members of the Hague Convention, we can include a notary affidavit and apostille as needed. We ensure you submit certified translations that are fully compliant and respected by international authorities.
Absolutely. Our certified translations are designed to support an immigration application and meet the standards of Canada Revenue Agency, IRCC, provincial ministries, and more. If you're applying within Canada, we know exactly what format and certification you need.
Yes. Every certified translation comes with a certificate of translation accuracy or a similar document, including a statement from the translator confirming that the translation is complete and accurate. This is essential for translations that are accepted by courts, universities, and licensing boards.
The cost of a certified translation depends on the level of certification required. Standard certified translations start at C$58, translations certified by a member of a society of translators and interpreters (such as STIBC or ATIO) start from C$88, and notarized translations may include an additional C$75 notarization fee.
Our translators are certified by major Canadian associations, such as:
ATIO (Ontario) OTTIAQ (Quebec) STIBC (Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia) ATIA, ATIM, ATINS, CTTIC and others
We also work with professionals accredited by the American Translators Association when your destination country or institution prefers U.S.-recognized credentials.
In rare cases, a translation cannot be certified — for example, if the source document is clearly photoshopped, incomplete, unclear, or illegible. In such cases, we’ll inform you before proceeding and advise on possible solutions, such as providing a notarized declaration of what can and cannot be translated.
